In honor of World Toilet Day (which is actually on November 19), herARTS in Action is hosting an evening of fun and FUNdraising!
Why are we doing this? Over 2 billion people in the world don’t have access to sanitation and about 1 billion don’t have access to clean water. In Burkina Faso, 20,000 children under the age of 5 die from preventable diarrheal diseases every year because only 11% of the population has access to sanitation. Once there is access to sanitation and clean water, mortality rates decrease and the number of children attending school increases because they aren’t hauling water or missing because they have their period.
