To help us get some answers to key questions about public toilet provision and public space we are holding a seminar about Public Toilet Provision on Tuesday 7th November between 10am and 3.30pm in the Maindee Library.
Clara Greed, Emeritus Professor of Urban Planning, UWE is a world expert on public toilet provision and we are delighted she can come and speak to us.
Welsh Government is currently developing draft guidance (in response to the new the Public Health (Wales) Act.) for Local Authorities on the development of local Public Toilets Strategies (a requirement of the Act). A speaker from Welsh Government will be attending to give the context and explain next steps.
We will also be welcoming Jo-Anne Bichard from the Royal College of Art to speak at the event. She plans to report on the Great British Toilet Map and her own research, especially accessible (disabled) toilets for people with dementia.
In the context of Maindee Unlimited exploring our very own public toilet project at The Triangle, Aled Singleton will be chairing a panel session looking at the wider context – examining issues around public space and social justice. We have a strong pane
– The needs of older people;
– Business Improvements Districts;
– The perspective of the local authority; and
– How far are citizens willing to go?
This event is free thanks to support from the Finding Maindee project throught the Arts Council of Wales Ideas: People: Places programme
