Ecological Sanitation Model Toilet/Miami Secondary School Student Club promotion of 501c3 Sustainable Organic Integrated Livelihoods' Ekolakay (Household Composting Toilet service/Haiti)

The nonprofit Sustainable Organic Integrated Livelihoods ( is an organization in its tenth year in Haiti addressing several problems simultaneously (public health, reforestation, job creation) through ecological sanitation (composting waste). We also sponsor a club at Miami Beach Senior High called [email protected], which is also a forum where students design and execute advocacy projects about sustainability locally and raise awareness about the global health crisis in sanitation, offering SOIL as a concrete way to support change.

About SOIL

SOIL Haiti | About SOIL
The mission of Sustainable Organic Integrated Livelihoods (SOIL) is to promote dignity, health, and sustainable livelihoods through the transformation of wastes into resources. We achieve this through developing social business models around ecological sanitation (EcoSan), a process in which nutrients from human wastes return to the soil rather than polluting fresh water resources.

Please take a look at the link to see how this 501c3 nonprofit has been working in Haiti in a manner that makes sense in addressing the lack of dignified and safe sanitation coverage in Haiti, a situation about which the UN World Toilet Day website asserts, “Today, 4.5 billion people live without a household toilet that safely disposes of their waste”.

World Toilet Day is about inspiring action to tackle the global sanitation crisis.

[email protected] takes action to tackle this crisis. Through student-created and student-executed service projects – such as art and essay contests, public spaces advocacy, teach-ins, art projects, grant-writing, and more students in [email protected] build resumes of service, learn about the nonprofit sector, and act locally to realize a global change .

Our Meeting Dates are posted on our [email protected] at the student activities page.

And we invite everyone to follow SOIL on Social Media by visiting, and follow @SOILMBSH.
