The Association for Gender Awareness & Human Empowerment (AGAHE) is non-profit organization working in the Punjab province of Pakistan since 2007 and registered with Societies Act 1860, contributing to sustainable development of the most marginalized segments of society through its core program areas of WASH, Health & Nutrition, Governance and Education. AGAHE’s struggle for sustainable development has provided millions of people including men, women, youth and children with access to adequate and equitable resources for improvement in their life through integrated approached for sustainable development. On the other hand, AGAHE through its participatory approaches strives to create linkages of local populations to state departments as a means of bridging the gap between state and public. Gender Equality, Equity and Inclusion and Environmental Protection are cross-cutting themes with AGAHE for a balanced and enabling society.

AGAHE is working in District Muzaffargarh through District-Wide Approach for declaration of District as model & Open Defecation Free district of Pakistan with financial and technical support of WaterAid. Rural Sanitation Program following Pakistan Approach towards Total Sanitation, Menstrual Hygiene Management in Schools and Communities Program and City-Wide Approach for Improved Sanitation in Small to Medium Towns are major WASH Programs currently being implemented with the support of relevant Government Departments to achieve the desired outcomes in District Muzaffargarh. AGAHE will be organizing the celebration of World Toilet Day on November 23, 2017 by engaging all stakeholders and following are the details about the event specifically:

Objectives of World Toilet Day:

World Toilet Day is a day to raise awareness and inspire action to tackle the global sanitation crisis – a topic often neglected and shrouded in taboos. The overall objective of Celebration of World Toilet Day is to mobilize and sensitize the local community and school children towards the importance of toilet construction and use of toilet at household level. This activity will serve the change in behaviors of the community people; children and adolescents in and out of schools and will contribute to achieve the vision of ODF District Muzaffargarh.
Following specific objectives will be achieved:

• To raise awareness of the importance of sanitation, and stimulate momentum towards reaching everyone, everywhere with equitable and improved sanitation
• To raise awareness about provision of basic sanitation services for all; especially for people who do not have access to a toilet to end the sanitation crisis
• To promote behavioral change for improved access to hygienic sanitation among the population and reducing the open defecation practices
• To raise awareness about the treatment solutions of wastewater and update about the wastewater treatment model being proposed for the urban population in Jatoi City
