Irrigation plays a vital role in increasing crop yields and stabilizing production. Many different methods are used by farmers to irrigate crops. They range from watering individual plants from a can of water to highly automated irrigation by a centre pivot system.
When treated wastewater is the source of irrigation water, environmental and health requirements must be taken into account. Success in using treated wastewater for crop production will largely depend on adopting appropriate strategies aimed at optimizing crop yields and quality, maintaining soil productivity and safeguarding the environment.
