THE BIG SQUAT is a fundraising event that will create awareness of the need for improved sanitation and raise funds to provide new Boys & Girls Latrines at a primary school in rural Ambo, Ethiopia. The event will take place on World Toilet Day.

To highlight the need for safe toilets and an open defecation free (ODF) environment, “squatters” will sit on toilets in public for ONE HOUR along a busy street. Friends will be asked to support the cause by giving a donation. Donors may contribute to this effort at www.toilets4others.org. 100% of all proceeds will be used to construct new latrines at the Gosu Kora Primary School.

Yes, it might be uncomfortable to sit on a loo in public. Just remember this: Your one hour of embarrassment will eliminate the embarrassment and health risks that hundreds of students and teachers face every day in Ethiopia. So let’s do this! It’s time to raise a stink for sanitation!
