IMG_5797The Ministry of Health in Kenya promote healthier lives in the communities and one method of doing this is through Public Health Field Days. At these events the local Public Health team made up of Health Officials, Medical Staff from the local health facilities including Nutritionists, Disease Control experts, VCT Counsellors, nurses etc. as well as locally trained Community Health Volunteers (CHV’s) provide information to the people on all topics that will help them lead healthier lives. In the sub-counties of Kipkelion East (Londiani) and Kipkelion West, a local NGO called Friends of Londiani that I work for support these events throughout the year in different locations.

Among the information stands that are available on these days are Water & Sanitation improvements, Nutrition, Malaria, TB, Dental Hygiene, Deworming, Community Health Strategy including Healthy Homesteads, Mother & Child Clinic, VCT and from time to time other organisation like Baraka Agriculture College who will attend this event in Sorget Primary School to talk about food security through improved food production, new technologies and nutritional values in local foods.
