Plunge yourself into the surprisingly dynamic world of the British Public Toilet with an immersive audio tour in London by the quirky American drama student, Rachel Erickson. Her reluctance to spend a penny (or 30 of them) led to a new incarnation as the Loo Lady, who will show you some of the city’s most iconic views while anecdotes, little-known histories and enchanting original music play automatically through your headphones. The group walk takes place just ahead of World Toilet Organization’s World Toilet Day.
This immersive story walk will take a little over an hour, and we’ll end off with a drink at a nearby pub.
VoiceMap uses your smartphone’s GPS device to play audio at specific locations. After downloading the audio walk using the instructions below, you can just put in your headphones and start walking.
To download the walk in the Android or iPhone apps, follow these steps:
1) Install VoiceMap by going to bit.ly/voicemap (iPhone) or bit.ly/getvoicemap (Android)
2) Sign in or create an account
3) Select London from the list of cities
4) Then select “At Your Convenience: A Lavatorial Walking Tour”
5) Tap on the red download button. The audio walk is free. Allow ALL the files to finish downloading before you close the app.
6) When the download is finished, the download button will change from red to green, and instead of seeing the word “Free”, you’ll see “Start”. You’re ready to go!
The tour starts on the river terrace of the Royal Festival Hall. We’ll meet in the centre of the terrace, between the two staircases.
